Self-E

Working with others to take our best Self-E's

Exciting New Webinar Series For Grades 4-6

Young people aged 9-12 are undergoing rapid changes, with the onset of puberty, increased engagement with social media combined with increased independence. This phase begins detachment from caregivers and more reliance on peers. To support this phase, understanding the meaning of self-esteem, how self-esteem affects self and other, exploring our identities and how peer relationships can affect how we see ourselves is important. Exploring these concepts while consolidating respectful co-regulating peer relationships, supports young people in the present moment but also throughout their schooling.

This webinar series utilises the tools of Arts Therapy, inspiring creativity, fun, a sense of belonging and safety while addressing important concerns for our young people.

“...having high (vs. low) self-esteem has wide-ranging positive consequences, including better social relationships, more success at school and work, better mental and physical health, and less antisocial behavior... self-esteem interventions might benefit individuals and society as a whole.” Orth & Robins, 2022

“Early adolescence may be a particularly effective time to implement self-esteem interventions (as) there is an emerging consensus that adolescence is a critical period in neurodevelopment and a critical period for influencing adult outcomes (and)... because at this developmental stage the generally increasing trajectory of self-esteem shows stagnation” Orth & Robins, 2022

Throughout this program we work towards creating individual mental health toolboxes, which will be developed by:

  • Exploring how our self-esteem affects our daily life & how others influence how we view ourselves

  • Exploring how the media affects self-esteem & media safety concerns

  • Exploring tools to develop reciprocal healthy relationships, supporting positive peer friendships

  • Exploring self-concept and what boundaries look like and feel like

  • Exploring self identity through self-expression

  • Exploring mindfulness tools to create an individual mental health tool

Lemon Drops Kids Therapy will run this webinar series with facilitator Amanda Tuckerman. We are currently taking expressions of interest.
